Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Karelin (born 19 September 1967, Novosibirsk) is a Soviet-Russian retired athlete who competed in Greco-Roman wrestling. He was included in the 25 best world athletes of the 20th century. He is also listed in the Guinness Book of Records as an athlete who had not lost a match in 13 years. There were times when his opponents refused to wrestle him.

Interesting Fact

During the opening bout of the 1993 World Championship, Karelin suffered one broken rib and one separated rib. Aleksandr continued fighting and gained victory over Matt Ghaffari, the World Cup winner. 20 minutes after the opening bout, Karelin went on to have the second match, winning it with a score of 12:1- and then the third shortly afterwards, at the end of which he became the World Champion. Aleksandr Karelin remained an undefeated champion throughout the span of his wrestling career.
